Business Type: Restaurant
Disadvantaged population type: Teenagers at risk
Cafe Ringelblum is a kosher dairy coffee house located in one of Beersheba’s underprivileged neighborhoods. Operating as a social business since 2010, it has become a second home for youth at risk in the region.
Cafe Ringelblum operates a yearlong apprenticeship program in which between 9-12 youths are trained as cooks and waiters. Fifty young people have successfully completed the program since its inception. The social program, which has some 70 graduates to date, is run in cooperation with the EretzIr nonprofit and the Beersheba municipality.
A detailed program is tailored for each individual, based on personal goals which are defined together with a social worker, addressing all aspects in their lives that may affect their training.
Cafe Ringelblum is experiencing a revival since Kampai, a group of local restaurateurs which has joined in the project, is bringing a new wave of entrepreneurship, and providing employment to the program’s graduates in the group’s restaurants in the region.
